2020 Road Season Wk 6

Week 6  2020

S.E.N.D (South Eastern Northern Division)

Bragging Rights Scratch Races

Saturday August 22nd 2020

Racing this weekend at Port today saw us conduct our First S.E.N.D (South Eastern Northern Division) club race with no frills just bragging rights and some chocolate for the winners. Rick was there early to setup up making sure all was at the ready. Unfortunately Hudson didn’t get to ride in the juniors as we continue to complete emergency track repairs.

It was great to be able to welcome and extend racing hospitality (as much as we can in this COVID world)- to the northern clubs (like they to us)- officially for the first time in 4 years.
Members from visiting clubs arrived early and did some course recon. 8 from Coffs- Asher (fences and bikes don’t mix) and Kerry late withdrawals and Macksville represented by 4 riders with Virginia another late withdrawal- something about a dinner party.
Col checked the starters list and quickly readjusted some grades!- Everyone will have a better idea of where they need to sign in next time.
31 riders lined up across all grades. With the biggest field being C grade men closely followed by A men. All grades were sent out on the road together and our men and women competed together but were recognised separately.
Muz and Col Mack had control of the race with Rick Liz Maz & Libby filling the other volunteer roles.
A Grade set out for 7 laps, it was tightly contested until a tyre puncture accompanied with a small walk back to the club- a quick change and he was able to regain the race. Oscar felt the pain of senior riders with bigger gears and didn’t quite make it to the finish line. 5 riders were still together heading into the last lap, with Kerrod from Coffs taking Bragging rights followed by Brandon Conway Port and Joel Barker Coffs.
B grade was a small group this week compared to previous weeks. All from Port- this gave the group a chance to work together and learn from coach Stuart Jakeman whilst they were out there. It was great to see Stuart taking the opportunity to help 2 juniors and a newer rider. I have already heard it was greatly appreciated.
Not sure what Stuart told them in the last lap though as he took the chocolates and Bragging rights. As did Alani Cockshutt. Monty Moore grabbed second in front of Alastair Page. B grade completed 6 laps today and got in across the line front of A grade.
C grade was hotly contested, 4 laps 10 riders. The Age group span was from U17 to MMS8. The group stayed together for a while and then slowly started to loose riders off the back, all completing the course in their own time though. In the end Alistair Coffs was to strong and held off Paul Gagliardi Port (who is showing great early club racing form in the three weeks it has been since he joined) and Chris from Coffs
D Grade completed 3 laps and saw one rider bumped from E to D before the race and then take the Chocolates well done Elliott (Macksville). He beat home Craig – Macksville and Brad – Port.
The ladies in D toughed it out with Joanne Macksville giving the men a run for their chocolates. Rach Goody (underestimated the wind) and managed to get home for Second with Cassie Coffs in third
E grade saw our two U13 riders competed against each other James Took line honors but both Jazz and James went home with chocolate.
Again thank-you to everyone that joined in, thanks to everyone for social distancing and following COVID protocols- I think I can honestly say everyone enjoyed themselves !
Even the two coms who bailed me up as soon as I pulled in from road duties to ask to go again. No problem was the response, we will program it in again next year, no they said in 1 month time!!! So if you have some constructive feedback please PM us.
Apparently its not Bragging rights if you back it up!!
