2020 Road Season Wk 5
Week 5 2020
August 15th 2020 – Graded Scratch Race – Course 4a
Who picked this course
Racing 15/8/20 saw slightly reduced numbers with club members racing away.
We welcomed back Alani and Oscar both dry after their rain soaked trip to Sydney last weekend – congratulations again Alani for collecting your 3rd place hardware.
Brad was back too as was Muzza.
This week the sunshine gods were shining but the wind picked up and made racing extra tough. The course saw all riders ride up Sapling Hill and then out to the Dam gate that’s four tough hills in 12.2 km loop and for fun A grade did 5 circuits, B 4 laps, C 3 laps, D 2 laps and E 1 lap.
Then they also had to dodge some water put across the road by the Lake Innes firies – ok maybe it wasn’t a heap of fun….
Riders though are enjoying the different courses, lengths and challenges these present . – great job Club Captain with your scheduling.
A grade set out first a tiny group and they alternated turns – Cam complained he was hungry and Oscar was kind enough to hand over one of his gels! In the end Oscar took line honours from Cam.
B Grade included our A grade women’s competitor Emma (we are affectionatly adopting her as PMCC) and our B grade woman Alani and Junior Tour Naming rights sponsor Michael Percival ( who celebrated his birthday this week with a 400 km ride) Cam conveniently enter Paul D into B grade and that’s were he stayed for the afternoon. The group splintered and left Paul H in their wake Alistair was next to fall a bit behind – but always polite and thankful to traffic control as he rides past. As they started their last lap 5 riders were still together.
Emma towelled up everyone and took line honours as 4 riders sprinted to the line at the end of their 4 laps.
Stu was first of the men across the line
C grade included Rach who fell victim to the hunger pangs after riding out to the club and retired early.
Lach fought with his Thumb-brace, unable to hold the bars with any confidence, that was the end for him.
Brad was just happy to be back – Paul G was back again this week and showed some great form finishing 2nd in C grade, ( Welcome to the club Paul) but Steve decided to jump away from the group early, riding solo for most of their race but it got him the win and a lovely promotion to B Grade – Good Luck and congratulations Steve.
Jazz backed up after netball and completed her lap and then waited for Dad and her brother to finished – I think she said it was easy!
Again another shout out to Rick Muz Libby Maz Liz ( eventually we will get her on her bike racing) and Rob ( who doesn’t ride at the moment ) but still volunteers at the club – your time is greatly appreciated Rob that’s for sure ! Thanks to the juniors, Stu and Paul who stayed to help pack up.
Extra Thanks to Rick too who spent extra time sweeping the excess stones on the dam corner after the PMHC council kindly had filled all the potholes.
Thanks everyone for managing COVID restrictions and requirements.
