I initially became involved with the Club in the early 1990s as Treasurer following the amicable split of the PM Cycle & Triathlon Club. Although I was a keen cyclist during my involvement with the club I infrequently participated in racing, preferring to be involved as an official and commissaire. Road racing in those days were mainly at Blackmans Point Road and on Burrawan Forest Drive. Criteriums were held in the industrial area during the summer months. Those crits were quite hairy, the road not being closed and competitors having to compete with motor vehicle users.
During my time with the club I had the pleasure to know some excellent riders who were fellow members, such as Graham Seers, Tim and Beth Everson, Garry Heagney, Brad Leach, Paul Wickham, Chris Jory, Brendan Brooks and Angus and Lachlan Morton.
I was very disappointed when the velodrome in Boundary Street failed to materialise despite the long and countless hours put in by then President, Warwick Wickham, Secretary, Debbie Lovdeday, and others. It is pleasing, however, that the club has since established the criterium circuit and club house in Burrawan Forest Drive.
When life membership was bestowed on John Leigh and myself in November 2001 I felt very honoured.
