This week’s race was the Muzza Handicaps in honour of our treasurer, commissaire and life member Murray Sallaway.
This week we had visitng riders from Manning Valley, Coffs Harbour, Hunter valley and Sydney making the handicappers job more challenging than normal
Our only E grade rider this week was James, securing himself the win and the block of chocolate that he no doubt shared with his family
For D and C there were 10 riders racing 16ks.
Our limit group were Christy and Jacqui. The 4 min group comprised of Todd, Tim, Paul H, Noah and Jack making his racing debut.
Scratch group were Lachlan, Iain and Paul G
All 3 groups worked well together with the idea of a handicap being that you are trying to catch the group in front or staying front if you are the limit group without being caught be the group behind and if the Handicapper has got it right the groups should have all come together near the end of the last lap (handicapping is not an exact science btw)
The scratch group caught the 4min group on the last lap after the sapling turnaround and attack from Noah(MVCC) on the final climb was enough to drop Tim and Paul H.
This combined group, however, were not fast enough to bridge the gap to Jack who had taken a flyer from the 4min group from the start and hunted the limit group down solo for the win with Jacqui taking 2nd and Christy coming in 3rd at the line with the PMCC result being Jack, Christy and Paul G.
A and B were the largest group with 18 riders tackling 32kms.
Limit group was Harrison, Jacob, Kobi and Thomas all from MVCC.
Next group were Alani, Alex and Tanya.
Followed shortly by Stuart, Monty, Michael, Emma and Josie.
The Block group were Asher, Ivory and Oscar
And then off Scratch were Kev, Keegan and Nick.
The humidity and a strong headwind on the finishing straight made the conditions quite difficult especially if you loose contact with your group and have to ride solo.
The limit group were riding well together until Jacob and Harrison upped the pace and dropped there other two riding companions and were able to stay away for line honours.
The other groups worked well together the conditions and pace saw a few DNF’S.
3rd across the line was Thomas Worth having out sprinted Josie Talbot by the narrowest of margins.
1st PMCC rider over the line was Oscar with Kev in 2nd and Alani in 3rd.
Thanks to all the volunteers – without them we wouldn’t have racing. Muzza, Rick, Bree, Libby, Joan, Maz, Liz and Jan.
No Saturday racing next week, enjoy the break and get ready to defend the following week with the final round of S.E.N.D.
If you are after high intensity fun, join us Tuesday night for crits.
